Special Meal

Currently, Vietnam airlines offers the following range of special meals on their flights - to suit a variety of wants.

1 - Vegetarian Meal

AVML: Vegetarian Hindu Meal

This is also known as Ovo-lacto Vegetarian-Indian style or Asian/Indian Vegetarian.

This meal does not contain the following: meats, seafood, eggs, lard, gelatin.

Recommended for: great majority of Hindus, who do not use meat and fish products.

VGML: Vegetarian vegan Meal

This is also known as Vegan Meal or Strict/Pure Vegetarian Meal.

This meal does not contain the following: meats, seafood, eggs, lard, gelatin, dairy product, honey.

Recommended for: strict vegetarians.

VLML: Vegetarian lacto-ovo Meal

This meal does not contain the following: meats, seafood, lard, gelatin.

Recommended for: people who do not eat seafood or meat products of any type.

VVML: Vietnamese/Chinese Vegetarian Meal

This meal does not contain the following: meat products of any type, seafood, eggs, lard, dairy products; garlic, onion, spring onion.

Characteristics: vegetarian meal, cooked in an oriental Chinese or Vietnamese style and resembling a type of meat or seafood.

Recommended for: monks, Vietnamese, Chinese (mainly Taiwanese) vegetarians.

2- Medical meals

BLML: Bland Meal

This is also known as Ulcer Diet Meal, Restricted Fiber Diet, Low Residue, Low Roughage.

This meal does not contain the following: fried and fatty food, raw/dried fruit or nuts, raw vegetable, highly seasoned meats, pickles, spices, alcohol.

Recommended for: people who have peptic ulcer and other gastro-intestinal problems.

DBML: Diabetic Meal

This is also known as Sugar Free Diet Meal, Hypoglycemic Meal, Restricted Carbohydrate meal.

This meal does not contain the following: sugar and foods containing sugar such as honey, jam, pastries; high-fat fried food, chocolate, sweetened desserts, sweetened fruit products, candy, ice-cream, coconut oil, palm oil, animal oil.

Recommended for: diabetics.

GFML: Gluten intolerant Meal

This is also known as Gliadin Free Meal, Coeliac Meal, Wheat-free Meal, Gluten Restricted.

This meal does not contain the following: products of wheat, buck wheat, rye, barley, oats, malt.

Recommended for: people who suffer from coeliacs disease. This disease is characterized by smoothing of the lining of the small intestine, rendering it ineffective for the digestion of nutrients. People with this disease have an intolerance to a protein called gluten which is found in the above cereals.

LCML: Low Calorie Meal

This is also known as Modified Fat Meal, Low Saturated Fat Meal, Weight Control Meal, Low Joule Meal.

This meal does not contain the following: sugar, high-fat food, processed meats and cheese, rich dairy products, sweet pastries, animal offal, shrimp, caviar…

Use: lean meat, fish, skinless chicken, fresh fruit, fresh vegetable, low-fat diary products, polyunsaturated fats and oils.

Recommended for: persons who want to control their total energy and fat intake.

LFML: Low fat Meal

This is also known as Modified Fat Meal, Low Saturated Fat Meal.

This meal does not contain the following: high cholesterol foods such as eggs, liver, kidney, heart, shrimp, caviar, oil, sugar, rich dairy products, processed meats, pastries, food containing high level of saturated fat.

Use: low-fat food, high-fibrous food.

Recommended for: people who have excessive blood cholesterol level, high blood pressure, cardiovascular problems; gall-stone problems or liver disorders.

LSML: Low salt Meal

This is also known as Low Salt Meal, Restricted Sodium Meal.

This meal does not contain the following: salted, smoked or pickled foods, all types of cheese, salted biscuits.

Recommended for: People suffering increased blood pressure or kidney disorders.

NLML: Low lactose Meal

This meal does not contain the following: milk and dairy products.

Recommended for: people who cannot consume milk and milk products.
